Frederick G. Beyerlein passed away at the age of 96 on March 4,2024 after a long illness. His wife of 40 years, Joanne Beyerlein, predeceased him in 1996. He is survived by his son, Steve Beyerlein, his daughter, Karen Weissenstein, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Fred frequently shared fond memories of his childhood growing up on the family farm in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. His aunt and uncle lived next door, as well as his favorite cousin, Louise. When Fred graduated from high school, he immediately joined the Navy and worked on maintaining telecommunications equipment in the Pacific through the end of World War II. He went to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on the GI bill, graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and subsequently completed his masters degree at Union College. He worked for the General Electric Company for 36 ½ years in Schenectady, New York and Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
When he retired from GE, Fred, and his wife, Joanne, split their time between Longboat Key, Florida and Burlington, Vermont. He looked forward to watching the sunset every night over the Gulf of Mexico and over Lake Champlain, taking many beautiful sunset photos that were shared by friends, as well as featured in local newspapers. Fred was also an avid gardener, bird watcher, beach walker, and hiker. His love of the outdoors is a gift which he shared liberally with his children, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. Well into his nineties, he played golf and rode his bike on the Lake Champlain bike path. Throughout his life, he loved singing, dancing, and listening to piano music played by his wife, Joanne, his daughter, Karen, and his son, Steve. Fred was an exceedingly compassionate soul who always took time to actively listen to the thoughts and concerns of others. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
