Larry Williams

Larry Ellis Williams passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the age of 74.

He was born and raised in Westford, Vermont.  As a boy, he worked with his brother David to care for the horses, cows, and other animals inhabiting their small self-sustaining family farm.  As a teenager, he worked for small dairy farmers in Westford including Lee Manley and Burton Rogers.

The family moved to Waterbury, Vermont in his senior year where he graduated from Harwood Union High School.  He was drafted into the United States Army and spent 1969 and 1970 in Vietnam as a truck driver.

Upon his return, he worked at Havoc Industries in Colchester, Vermont where he met his wife Barb.  They were married in 1973, and settled in Georgia, Vermont a few years later, where he resided until his passing.

Larry worked tirelessly in manufacturing and as a tradesman to provide and build a home for his family.  Their Georgia property, originally a cornfield, grew into a lush, forested parcel with his ceaseless investment of time and intention.  There is no structure on the property he did not design, build, or maintain.

In later years, he enjoyed fishing, driving his truck - a lifelong car enthusiast, and the serenity of his land.

Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years Barbara (Ryan) Williams, his daughter Misty Lyn Williams and her husband Dean Goss (Essex Junction, VT), his beloved grandson Orin Goss, his sisters Elizabeth Martell and her partner James Bryce (Fairfax, VT) and Judy Beehner and her husband Richard Beehner (Delta, OH), sisters-in-law Nina (Robert), Judy (Roger), and Christine (David) Williams, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his mother Doris (Preston) Williams, his father Francis Williams, and his brothers Robert, Roger, and David Williams.

The family wishes to thank family and friends who came to visit in his final weeks, Bayada Hospice (especially Nurse Michelle Jollie), Deborah and Dr. Jaina Clough from UVM Palliative Care, and Jonathan of Bear Trap Cremation Services.

At Larry’s request, there will be no public service and his remains will be spread in a private family gathering on his property.  In lieu of flowers, offer a small act of kindness to a person you see in need of a helping hand.  Never underestimate how kindness makes a positive impact on the lives of others.
