Michael Frederick Patterson, 69, of Grand Isle, VT, passed away peacefully on June 5th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born July 3, 1953 in Rochester, New York, son of Frederick Charles Patterson Sr. and Clara Elizabeth Patterson (Janack). After service in the United States Air Force, Mike and his wife Debra Patterson (Truax) settled in Vermont in 1981.
Mike soon established Isle Care Landscaping, serving both Grand Isle and Franklin counties. Later, with his new son-in-law, Fred Bourgeois, he co-founded BP Concrete. Together, they built a successful business. Mike ultimately retired in 2015, at the age of 62.
In his retirement, Mike was an avid bird enthusiast. In addition to feeding, watching and identifying birds, he spent many hours hand-crafting bird houses and feeders. He further loved spending time with his wife solving puzzles, creating folk art, being in nature, and gardening. Mike took great pride in his yard and home that they built and shared together.
All of his hobbies, however, came second to his family, whom he loved to no end. A lifelong interest in music that stemmed from his parents, he would pass on to his children and grandchildren; as a result, there was always live music performed at family gatherings, sharing not only talent, but also laughter, affection, and love. Mike was extraordinarily proud of the family he had built.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Debra Patterson (Truax), his son, Ian Patterson and his wife Angie of Manchester, NH, daughter, Harmony Bourgeois and her husband Fred of Alburgh, VT, and his grandchildren, Kolby, Paige, Kaitlyn and Brooke. He is also survived by his father, Frederick Sr., and siblings, Frederick Jr., Reata, Corleen, Luke, and Memory. Mike was predeceased by his mother Clara, and brothers Matthew and William.
There will be no formal calling hours. A small graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s name to the American Cancer Society.
